Chroma key technique

A technique I would like to use for my video to create the effect of having a fridge within a fridge within a fridge in order to encode meaning to the audience that the subject is on drugs is chroma key.
I am doing this blog post in order for me to understand and remember how to do this technique when I come to editing.
I was given a tutorial in class on how to do this and created a video with some footage I wasn't using for my video but filmed previously and also footage of someone opening a door with the green screen behind it. Here is the video:

Here are the steps on how to remind me how to use the chroma key technique.

  • I need at least two video lines. The shot with the green screen needs to be on the top line and the footage going in the green screen needs to be underneath the way to remember it is that its like a sheet of glass and something underneath it.
  • Then select the top clip and add the chroma key effect by going to 'Effects'- 'Video Filter' - 'Key'- 'Chroma Keyer'
  • Under the Chroma Keyer tab I can adjust the colour to match the same as my green screen.
  • The green area of the clip should become clear and you will see the video clip on the layer underneath.
  • I may then need to move the clip underneath to fit in the transparent area.

Digipak layout drafts

Here I have made 3 digipak layout drafts this will help me when it comes to taking images for my ancillary tasks as I can take these along with me so I can get a range of different shots from using these ideas. It will also help me with ideas for my final digipak layout draft. It is also going to help me decide what images to take and give me an idea on layout and what bits of information go where also it gives me inspiration for my typography my next thing to do is plan what my typography looks like. Then once I have my images I can then do a final draft and get on with creating my product.

Advertisement layout drafts

Here I have done 3 advertisement layout drafts to give me ideas on composition when I'm taking my photos and planning typography. My next step after I have took my images and planned my typography is too create a final draft and then get on with constructing my product.

Character profile

My artist for the music video is a 20 year old male who dresses with a 1960's style due to this being something which my target market will like. And also I need to be original with my ideas and different to the original music video where the artist in the video is an old male probably in his late 30's. My artist will follow a similar style to Mac DeMarco as he is my inspiration but will also take on some of the trends of the hippie era. My artist in my music video will be someone who sings about controversial subjects and thus has a fan base that respects his ideologies and values for this like Mac DeMarco. He will wear a tie dye top, denim shorts with an Aztec print , messy hair and also a bandanna to fit in with this. I have chose someone young but not too young because my target market is mature music fans so it would be strange if I was to get someone younger than 20 to play the artists role the message of the video will not be put across as seriously as hopefully the video will leave the target market thinking about the moral of the video and that it is because drugs are a massive epidemic and once you take them you're stuck in an endless cycle. Key characteristics of my character are that he is easily susceptible by others and is young and likes to have a good time. My character will be played by my boyfriend Adam as he is a 20 year old male and therefore he will be able to fulfil this role. He already follows some of the trends himself from the hippie era and therefore I will be able to easily access the right costume for my artist to have a retro style.

Non linear story telling

Narrative theories from flemjems

Here I have done a slide share on the different narrative theories. I felt that this was beneficial as it will help me to later decide on what apply to mine when doing other blog posts.

Risk assesment

Before filming I feel it is definitely essential for me to make a risk assessment so I can out weigh any risks there might be at each location, this is so that I can ensure each day I shoot that it is successful and things get done efficiently without any problems which could be avoided.

When I plan on filming...

Due to my actor having a job where he works nights we had a conversation at the beginning of January to see when he is free to film the music video. This also works in my favour as there is three different locations where we need to film. If there happens to be any other implications such as re-filming another conversation will be had in order to plan when to re-shoot something.
So far the days we can film are:

  • Tuesday 6th January 2015-First shoot date
  • Saturday 11th January 2015-Second shoot date
  • Friday 30th January 2015-Third shoot date
In order to make sure my actor is still free on these dates I sent a text message:

Therefore these are the dates which I will be shooting.
On the first shoot date the first scene shall be filmed due to it being a weekday and having easy access to the room and also we shall be filming in the evening and it doesn't matter whether this scene is filmed in day light or not. On the second shoot date the bath scene will be filmed. And the last shoot date will be where I film the scenes at my grandmas house due to this is when I am able to get transport to the house as well as my actor being free on this date.

Storyboarding

Here I have made a story board for my music video so that when it comes to the shooting of the video I will be able to take it along with me and know what I need to film. Doing so will also aide me when it comes to the editing of my music video as I will know where each bit of footage goes in terms of matching it up to the song.
